Elementary School Program
Middle/High School Program
Our Background
Founded in 1971 by behavioral psychologist Dr. Laura Phillips, and located
in Alameda since 1984, CLC was created to provide an alternative placement
for children whose educational needs were not met in public schools. After
becoming a state-certified, non-public school, CLC began working collaboratively
with the public school districts to serve their more complex students.
Though continuously expanding services, CLC has remained small, ensuring
quality programs and a nurturing environment.
The Program
Children's Learning Center offers a consistently positive environment,
highly individualized educational and behavioral programming and a dedicated,
well-trained staff, all of which make it possible for even the most challenging
children to achieve progress. By blending data-based behavior analysis
with sincere care and concern for each individual child, CLC has created
a unique family-like atmosphere where all children can learn and grow.
CLC offers two programs:
Services
- Individualized academic, vocational, social and emotional programs
- Individual, group and family counseling
- Speech. language and occupational therapy as determined by IEP
- Structured cooperative play and social skill development groups
- Emphasis on effective transitioning of students back to public school
programs or to independent living situations
- Over 30 years experience in sucessful programs for the severely emotionally
disturbed, learning disabled, autistic, Asperger's syndrome and developmentally
delayed population.
Equal treatment and access to services are offered
without regard to race, religion, gender, gender preference, or national
origin.
Referral and Placement
Placement inquiries are often initiated by public schools, pediatricians,
mental health professionals, community agencies, or by parents directly.
Final placement is based on the mutual agreement of the referring school
district, parents and CLC. CLC welcomes school visits by interested parents
of special needs children. To arrange a visit, please call (510) 769-2322
for the Elementary School Program, or (510) 769-7100 for the Middle/High
School Program.
