OUR MISSION
The mission of the Children's Learning Center is to provide a comprehensive alternative educational program for exceptional children, who, because of their intense behavioral, social, emotional and educational needs are temporarily unable to succeed in the public school system. By developing a positive attitude toward learning, developing and strengthening self-esteem, teaching them essential academic and social skills, and successfully returning them to the public schools, Children's Learning Center strives to enhance the quality of their lives and to enable them to reach their full potential in society.
PLACEMENT
Placement inquiries are often intiated by public schools, pediatricians, mental health professionals, community agencies, or by parents directly. Final placement is based on the mutual agreement of the referring school district, parents, and CLC. CLC welcomes school visits by interested parents of special needs students. See a brief program description here.
CLC has several openings for Fall 2009 in grades K-5; please contact Kathleen Hayes, Program Director of the Elementary School, for more information or to set a time for a site visit.
There are a few openings at the Middle/High School for grades 6-12; please contact Gus Psara, Executive Director, for more information or to set a time for a site visit.
TUITION and PAYMENT FOR SERVICES
CLC is a state-certified nonpublic special education school and our rates are established through a collaborative negotiation process which involves all of the local school districts. See these links to the California Department of Education listings for the Elementary School and Middle/High School
Typically, if a local school district agrees that CLC is the appropriate placement because of the unique needs of the student, then the District contracts with CLC to provide necessary educational, behavioral and related services for the student as required under IDEA for free, appropriate public education at no cost to the family. In a very few instances, there may be negotiated agreements in place between a District and a family which require the family to pay all or a portion of the tuition and fees, and those cases are handled on an individual contractual basis.
